Marnus Labuschagne Left Out from Australian One-Day International Team to Face Team India
Marnus Labuschagne has been dropped from Australia's three-game ODI series against India, as high-performing Queensland colleague Matt Renshaw receiving a shock inclusion.
Recent Form Result in Exclusion
Selectors dropped Labuschagne from the ODI squad following managing only a single run in both of his innings during the recent series against South Africa in August. Labuschagne has a highest score of forty-seven in his last 10 ODI batting appearances.
Labuschagne has played 68 one-day internationals and amassed 1,871 runs at an average of 34.64 runs per dismissal, but will now focus on earning a Test recall in time for the Ashes beginning in Perth on 21 November.
Surprise Inclusion and Team Changes
There have been indications of a improvement in form with 160 for Queensland in the domestic first-class competition this week, while Renshaw also hit a hundred for the Bulls in the same game against Tasmania.
Renshaw is in line to make his first white-ball appearance in the forthcoming series against India after his last inclusion in an ODI squad in 2022.
The left-hander has played 14 Test matches with the last coming in India in 2023 but is also seeking a Test return as Australia look for a fix to their batting top-order problems.
Bowling Additions and Injury News
Fast bowler Mitchell Starc returns for the ODI series against India after taking a break since performing well for Australia in the whitewash of West Indies in July.
BBL performer Mitch Owen might get his ODI debut after sustaining a head injury in the build-up to Australia’s previous 50-over series against South Africa.
ODI captain Pat Cummins is still unavailable as he hopes to heal from a back injury in time to lead Australia in the first Ashes Test in November.
Squad Selection Strategy and Fixtures
Australia have announced a squad for only the first two T20s against India with the upcoming Ashes series, although Glenn Maxwell will miss all of the five-match series due to a wrist injury sustained in New Zealand.
Mitch Marsh will captain both the ODI and T20 sides after smashing a century in the final game against New Zealand to secure a two-nil victory last week.
“We have named a squad for the ODI series and initial two matches of the T20 series as there will be rotation through the later stages of the series as individuals prepare for the cricket season through domestic first-class matches,” Australia chair of selectors George Bailey said.
“The bulk of the T20 squad will stay as a group as it’s an crucial phase in the preparation for the World Cup next year, however we are aiming to find equilibrium to ensure we simultaneously get ready certain individuals for the Test matches ahead.”
Australia’s three-match ODI series against India begins on 19 October in Perth, before the opponents play five T20 internationals from October 29.
