Around fifty automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Cars, building surfaces and postal boxes were vandalized, sometimes with swastikas, they reported in a official communication.
Officers state they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a resident discovered that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued liquid.
The fluid had been placed in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Officers then discovered many other smeared vehicles and house walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Police say early analysis suggest the fluid was probably blood from a person.
"There is still no indication as to its origin; officials are presently not cognizant of any physical harm in connection with the incident," they added.
Local authorities said they were attempting "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the public for tips.
A high-ranking official stated the vandalism left him speechless and required to be solved rapidly.
"This act strikes at the core of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the far-right violent incident in 2020," he wrote on a platform, mentioning the death of nine people by a shooter focusing on people of migrant background in five years prior.
